find the common ratio of the sequence. -125, -25,-5,-1

OpenStudy (johnweldon1993):

how do you get from -125 to -25? how do you get from -25 to -5? how do you get from -5 to -1?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

divide by 5?

OpenStudy (johnweldon1993):

Right....good idea starting with thinking about division.....just remember geometric series only use multiplication so dividing by 5 is the same as multiplying by ...?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

-164, -82,-41,-20.5,...so that would be dividing by 2 then

OpenStudy (johnweldon1993):

yes that would be dividing by 2....except you would put you common ratio as 1/2 correct?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh the answer would be the fraciont 1/2 instead of just 2?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

fraction*

OpenStudy (johnweldon1993):

that is correct....like I said before....geometric sequences only deal with multiplication....so like in that first question you asked... multiplying by 1/5 is the same as dividing by 5....so your answer would be 1/5 and the same here...the answer would be 1/2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh i see thanks

OpenStudy (johnweldon1993):
