If f(x) = 4x^3+Ax^2+6x-20 and f(1) =-5 what is the value of A?

Parth (parthkohli):

It's given that \(f(x) = 4x^3 + Ax^2 + 6x - 20\). So \(f(1) = 4(1)^3 + A(1)^2 + 6(1) - 20\), right?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Correct.

Parth (parthkohli):

\[f(1) = 4(1)^3 + A(1)^2 + 6(1) - 20 = 4 + A + 6 - 20\]But \(f(1) = -5\), so \(4 + A + 6 - 20 = -5\)

Parth (parthkohli):

Can you solve \(4 + A + 6 - 20 = -5\)?
