Two cars leave Chicago, one traveling east and the other west. After three hours, they are 297 miles apart. If one car is traveling 5 mph faster than the other, what is the speed of each vehicle?

Assuming both start from rest, you can find 2 equations, describing the motion of each vehicle. You would have 3 unknowns, x (speed), D1 and D2 (speed of each car) Each will have travelled their own distance, D1 and D2. Knowing the distance apart you can end up with the 2 equations in terms of x and either D1 or D2
