We're dealing with perimeter, so for the first part, you just want to add all the sides together and then simplify. So for the larger triangle, you have 4x+2+7x+7+5x-4. Let's make that look more intuitive by putting all the like terms together - 4x+7x+5x+2+7-4. Then you just add everything up - 16x+5 is your simplified form for the big triangle. The small one ends up being 4x+5. For the second part, you want to find the difference between the big and small triangles, so you take the expression for the big one and subtract the expression for the small one. 16x+5-4x-5 = 12x.
