Write an equation of the line that passes through (8, 3) and (4, 3). A. y = 3 B. y = 4x + 3 C. y = 4 D. y = 3x

OpenStudy (jdoe0001):

what would be the slope of that line?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

4?

OpenStudy (jdoe0001):

well, how did you get 4?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The difference when you do 8-3= 4 and 3-3=0

OpenStudy (jdoe0001):

anyhow, the slope of a line is rise over run, that is $$ \cfrac{y_2-y_1}{x_2-x_1} $$

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I don't get how to do tht..

OpenStudy (jdoe0001):

sorry, I'm a bit lagged :/

OpenStudy (jdoe0001):

well, you have 2 points, (8,3) and (4,3), those are your coordinates, thus (8,3) and (4,3) \(x_1,y_1\) and \(x_2,y_2\)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okay. I that part

OpenStudy (jdoe0001):

so, what does that give you for the slope?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

3?

OpenStudy (jdoe0001):

$$ \cfrac{3-3}{8-4} \implies ? $$
