Medal and fan to best answer!! How did the use of aircraft affect combat in World War I? It allowed nations to better determine the positions of their enemy. It ultimately eliminated the need for trench warfare. It ended the use of frontal assaults in battle. It prolonged the course of the war.

The biggest advantage for aircraft in war was the ability aircraft provided to see what the other side was up to. Aerial photography was probably the single most important use of aircraft in WW1. So the answer would be: "It allowed nations to better determine the positions of their enemy."
