The Macintosh OS and Windows are examples of which of the following types of operating systems?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

where are the options?

OpenStudy (e.mccormick):

Yah, this could be commercial, closed source, proprietary, generic, all purpose, and many other terms. There is overlap in even that small list. Dozens upon dozens of words can describe both of them. However, a better way to learn would be to ask about the things you don't understand. For example, lets say one of the answers was Closed Source and you had no clue what that meant. you could ask about that and people would tell you it was a way of a company protecting their source code from the prying eyes of others... but with the trade off that an open source, or available source code, structure promotes innovation and allows for reviews of the code for bugs by a wider range of people. Rather than ask us to answer your questions, you would be asking us to explain the things you are unsure of. Then, when you learned things, you would know the answers to the questions!
