i don't know when to use pascal triangle and binomial expansion in the exam

OpenStudy (kenljw):

You use the Pascal Triangle to preform a binomial expantion (x + y)^0 = 1 (x + y)^1 = x + y (x + y)^2 = x^2 + 2xy + y^2 (x + y)^3 = x^3 + 3yx^2 + 3xy^2 + y^3 do you see how it's used

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no

OpenStudy (kenljw):

the coefficients is the sum of those above, notice the total power across the sum is always the exponent (x+y)^n

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh ok

OpenStudy (kenljw):

As x^n goes to x^0 and y goes from y^0 to y^n, the coefficients are that of the Pascal Triangle Line n
