Eric is planning to paint the four pillars that are attached to the front of his house. But, he needs to know how many square feet he'll be painting before he buys the paint. The pillars are each 10 feet tall and have a 1-foot diameter. What is the square footage that he'll be painting? [Note: Eric will not be painting the ends of the pillars.] (Use 3.14 for π.)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[(((10 \times 1) \times 4)\times 4)\] \[= 160 sq/ft\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

wait are they square or circular?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

That ain't one of the answers...But I have no idea if it's square or circular. It didn't say :/

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

1-foot diameter means its a cylindrical pillar

OpenStudy (anonymous):

it will be circumference x height x 4

OpenStudy (anonymous):

3.14 x 1 x 10 = 314 sq/ft

OpenStudy (anonymous):

x 4 (because there are 4 pillars) = 1256
