Multiply then Write the result in scientific notation

OpenStudy (unklerhaukus):

Use the associative property of multiplication \[(1.8 \cdot 10^1)(7 \cdot 10^5)=(1.8\times7)(10^1\cdot10^5)\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okay, so the answer is D?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

hello?

OpenStudy (unklerhaukus):

um you should get \[=(1.8\times7)(10^1\cdot10^5)\\=12.6\cdot10^6\] but you want the decimal place next to the first number in scientific notation \[=1.26\cdot10^6\times10\\=\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes, thats what I got, but what should I do with that "x10" at the end, cause its not in to answer choices

OpenStudy (unklerhaukus):

well \[10^6\times10=10^{6+1}= \]

OpenStudy (rane):

the ans is A as unckle said

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ohh, okay, I get it now!

Thanks so much!
