Elimination is a good method to use here. The equations are already set up nicely for that. If you add the left halves: (x + x) + (y - y) = 6 + 12 From this point, you should be able to solve for "x" here.

Yes, that would be the next step. 2x + 0 = 18 2x = 18 x = 9

And now, you can take that value for x and put it in either of the original equation to get "y". 9 + y = 6 -> y = -3 So x = 9 and y = -3
