what does personification mean for english?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Personification means that the author is taking an inanimate object (not a person) and acting like they are a person, or describing them as though they are somehow alive.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

For instance, "The wind howled its mighty objection." The wind isn't actually alive here, and it certainly can't actually howl in objection. but the writer is treating it almost as if it IS a person, by assigning these qualities to it. Does that make sense?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

just think about the root word "person"ification. you are giving something human qualities. that's how I learned to remember it.

you know you could've looked that up on google or yahoo........

@96hannahrayne, everyone learns differently. Some people are very confident researching on their own, which is great! Other people find that it's easier for them to absorb new information in an environment like OpenStudy, which is also great! They're just two different strategies. :)
