Allright for inhalation you contract the external intercostal muscles and relax the internal intercostals muscles which will pull the ribcage upwards and outwards. This will cause the pressure in the lungs to decrease, so air will go in the longs. The diaphragm pulls the lung cavity down to even more increase the volume. Can you predict what happens for exhalation?
