whats the equation to find the area of a regular octagon

OpenStudy (mertsj):

Area = side^2(2+2sqrt2)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes it's a simple formula: Let S = the length of the side of the octagon. Let A = the area of the octagon Then A = 2(1+ sqrt2)xS^2 = 4.828 S^2

so if the problem gave you a side length of 5 and a apothem of 6 how do you find the answer ???
