US entry to WWI did not open a new front. US troops just joined the French and British... The post-WWI recession was caused by elimination of wartime production. The War Industries Board was established in 1917 to help coordinate purchasing of war supplies. US troops replenished Allied forces at a time when Germany was unable to replenish its losses, and did play a role in the final offensive to force Germany's surrender.
