Choose the system of equations which matches the following graph.

OpenStudy (gabylovesyou):

x + 2y = −10 3x − y = 12 x − 2y = −10 3x − y = 12 x + 2y = −10 3x + y = 12 x − 2y = −10 3x + y = 12 @ganeshie8

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

look at the lines. one line is falling down. other line is rising up.

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

so you can strike off two options straight away. what are they ?

OpenStudy (gabylovesyou):

i can take B and C out ?

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

wonderful !

OpenStudy (gabylovesyou):

Its A!

OpenStudy (gabylovesyou):

right ?

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

correct ! fantastic work !!

Another quick way to check these is by taking advantage of the intercepts. For the line sloping mid-left to lower right, you have x = 0, y = -5. Plug a 0 for x into the equations, which one is true if y = -5? The very first one. Now the other line: 4,0 is an intercept, so which equation is true if x=4 and y = 0? Again, easy to see that 3x-y=12 is the right one.
