Find the exact value if the trigometric functions if the terminal side of theta is in quadrant 3 on a line with having a slope -5/7

OpenStudy (mathstudent55):

The slope is 5/7, not -5/7 |dw:1370542191110:dw|

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Oh ..How is this solved . When i have a fraction 5/7 the 7 is x and the 5 is y?

OpenStudy (amistre64):

tangent IS slope

OpenStudy (amistre64):

the rest is filling the third piece of the triangle and working the definitions

Find the length of the hypotenuse by using the Pythagoras theorem.

OpenStudy (mathstudent55):

Slope is the divverence in y over the difference in x, so if you have a slope of 5/7, think of it as moving positive 5 in y and positive 7 in x. Since 5/7 = (-5)/(-7), this slope is also the same as moving -5 (down) in y and -7 (left) in x.
