Help! i give medals will be below... Find the scale factor of ABCDE to FGHIJ.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

|dw:1370548136851:dw|

OpenStudy (anonymous):

well if they are similar shapes, then they have an equal ratio of 10:15... which is 2:3 so x would be 9 * 2/3 and y would be 8 * 3/2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

how do i type 2/3 into my calculator?? as a decimal??

OpenStudy (anonymous):

well 2/3 is 0.66666666666666666666666666666666.... repeating if you have a graphing calculator then you should be able to type in (2/3). also there are many online calculators that can do this

OpenStudy (amistre64):

press: 2 press the divide key press: 3 press enter or equals or whatever they want to call the finishing key

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok i though so but i didn't want to get the wrong answer thanks

OpenStudy (anonymous):

for x i get 6 and for y k get 5.3

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i mean y LOL @robz8

OpenStudy (anonymous):

remember, when you're solving for y, you're not multiplying 8 by 2/3, you're multiplying it by 3/2 because y is on the larger shape

OpenStudy (anonymous):

your x value is correct

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh so y is 12

OpenStudy (anonymous):

correct

OpenStudy (anonymous):

could you help me i have to more questions for this one

OpenStudy (anonymous):

would i just do 38 times 2/3 then take 15 divided by 3/2 @robz8

OpenStudy (anonymous):

are these questions referring to the same shapes?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes i deleated them i will retype them

OpenStudy (anonymous):

if the perimeter of ABCDE is 38 find the perimeter of FGHIJ if length HJ is 15 find length CE

OpenStudy (anonymous):

for the perimeter you would multiply by 3/2, not 2/3 to find FGHIJ

OpenStudy (anonymous):

and for HJ you would just do 15 *2/3, or like you said, 15 divided by 3/2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ok thanks so much for the help i really appreciate it :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

you're welcome!
