What is positive parenting? What is discipline? How does it differ from punishment? What is active listening? Why is it used by parents? What is guidance? Provide an example of a parent providing guidance to a child? Where can families and parents find support and resources?

OpenStudy (compassionate):

Encouraging your child. Discipline is punishing the action not the child. Setting standards and letting the child understand the consequences of his actions before he preforms them. Active listening is a range of skills from making eye contact, focusing on what the child is saying, and paraphrasing. It lets the child know you care about his/her opinion and what he says is important. If a child needed help on mathematics or was having trouble understanding the rules, the mother/father could guide them to a conclusion without telling them directly so they can understand it themselves. Children and Families, your community, food banks, Salvation Army, FEMA, and many other resources.
