Britain wanted China to take their opium. China didn't want to buy the opium, however, because Chinese citizens were developing an addiction -- resulting in degradation of society. Since Britain didn't have anything else to offer the Chinese (they weren't interested in any of the products Britain had to trade) they forced them to take the opium through war. Therefore, the answer is...can you figure it out?
