Unfollow feature?

OpenStudy (aravindg):

I have posted about this before. It would be great if we could "unfollow" from notifications on a particular question using an "unfollow" button.

thomaster (thomaster):

Yea it can be annoying sometimes when a post goes viral and you get a new reply notification every 5 seconds.

OpenStudy (dmezzullo):

agreed

OpenStudy (uri):

That is why I'm not writing anything on that away party for danny,Notifications xD

OpenStudy (anonymous):

like now

mathslover (mathslover):

@dumbsearch2 , can u add this feature to your app of OS?

OpenStudy (opcode):

I doubt Sean could do that... The notifications are a server sided. And there is no API or anything for him to do it.

mathslover (mathslover):

oh...

OpenStudy (dumbsearch2):

Yea, what @opcode said. I couldn't put this in TUOSA. I could hide the notifications which they have "unfollowed" though, if you have the extension... maybe this would work

OpenStudy (opcode):

Oh yeah. You could have an extension that detects the thread URL? So maybe a script that detect the thread ID? So like: 51b169dae4b05b167ed3143d is detects it removes the element and -1 the notification? Of course they have to click the un-follow button first. But it would slow down the site... Just saying...

OpenStudy (opcode):

Yup. It works "data-id="51b8b41ab9719cd6defb8625"... Sean can make it into a extension.

OpenStudy (dumbsearch2):

Sure I could do this. I know that it would lag the site even more for people with the extension installed, checking all the time if the user has a notification that should be removed (display:none in CSS or maybe just remove it ENTIRELY from the DOM), so that's why I don't think this would be a good idea.
