-36 factors as -36, 1 and -1, 36 -18, 2 and -2, 18 -12, 3 and 12, -3 -9, 4 and 4, -9 -6, 6 You need to figure wout which two factors to place in the parentheses, so that the middle term will come out as -x after using FOIL. I'm going to guess -9, and 4 (2x - 9)(x + 4) Using FOIL: 2x^2 + 8x - 9x - 36 = 2x^2 - x - 36 That means (2x - 9(x + 4) is correct
