What is the value of x? Justify each step.
??? You just posted the steps AND the solution!!!
Yes I am a bit confused here as to what the response is supposed to be for the homework. Perhaps the names of the steps?
I REALLY have no idea what your teacher wants here. And I also have no idea on earth why that "AB + BC = AC" thingy is included. It has absolutely nothing to do with solving for x. As for "naming the steps", I suppose that you might try: b. combine x terms c. subtract 8 from both sides d. divide both sides by 8 e. Yo answer yo! But beyond that, I haven't a clue... :-(
well the whole AB + BC = AC is referring to the second picture, saying that if you add the two line segments you get AC (the entire line)
AB = 2x BC = 6x + 8 if AC = 32, it wants you to find x which means 2x + 6x +8 = 32 the 2x and the 6x add together to make 8x +8 = 32 subtract 8 from both sides 8x = 24 divide by 8 on both sides x = 3
Ahh so!! The link shows no picture, only 5 equations labeled a-e, with the ab+bc=ac being the "a" line.
i see 2 links: 1 with the steps, and 1 with a picture
So do I just justify each step by naming them and then state the value of x?
Gak!!! You're right!! I missed the second one (obviously)... :-( But even still, the answer is already posted, along with the steps, so I can't tell what the teacher wants.
@Usagi18 for example, to justify the 2nd step, you must subtract 8 from BOTH sides so that it is equal on both sides of the equal sign. (that's why there is an equal sign to begin with haha)
