Which of the following is not true about beta emissions? Difference of the atomic number by one between the old element and new element formed Are written as 0-1e Cannot penetrate concrete Less penetrating than alpha emissions
a beta particle is just a high energy electron, so there is no change in the elements identity, i.e. no change in the number of protons
So which one would it be?
using what i said, which one do you think it is?
Atomic number = protons. So since aaronq already told you there's no change in protons... which answer would make the most sense?
B?
the last one: less penetrating then alpha
beta particles has more penetrating ability then alpha because its has less ionising ability then alpha. Beta travels at 90% speed of light then alpha which travels at 10% speed of light.
The answer will be C beta particles cannot pass through concrete as they have low penetrating power the loss of beta particle causes an increase in the element's ATOMIC number by 1 and beta has more penetrating power so only C is incorrect!
@ArslanQureshi it can be D too because beta has high penetrating ability then alpha
yes it can be D too I will suggest using D because thickness of concrete is not mentioned
ok so.. i'm right
yes u r
it cannot penetrate concrete as it is beta emmisions are stopped by a thin sheet of lead
