A global maximum of g on the interval [0, 2] must occur at a critical point. this is wrong? am i right? because it should happen at the end point

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

it could happen at the critical point (keyword "could") but it also could happen at the endpoint since the endpoint could be higher than the critical point

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

saying "because it should happen at the end point" is wrong because the critical point could be above the endpoint, so the endpoint isn't always the global max

OpenStudy (anonymous):

if the question is must occur at a critical point so is it wrong? i think it depends on the critical points right?

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

yes you are correct, so it only happens sometimes

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

so the original statement is false

OpenStudy (anonymous):

alright, thanks! :)

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):
