Random fertilization helps to prevent natural selection thus when two organisms are mated on the bases of similarity or dissimilarity of characters then natural selection will occur and only a particular type of organisms will increase in number reducing the genetic variability thus to prevent natural selection from operating it is necessary that random fertilization occurs in a population and every organism gets an equal chance to survive.
