OpenStudy (ja1):

I am looking for people who think they are mature, resourceful, who abide by the CoC and who are good at organization, coding (not necessary but useful) and who can be On Call when needed. This is for a team of 6 people that will organize a hackathon with me, we will plan it out, set up the rules, and list the problems that need to be fixed. If you are interested just reply with a reason why you think you should be selected and I will PM you with a reply, I need as many people as I can but no more than 5 people so be quick, the deadline ends 6/8/13 @ 8:00 PM EDT so hurry!

OpenStudy (ja1):

Also for more info you can always go to the old post: http://openstudy.com/study#/updates/51b27022e4b05b167ed358b5

OpenStudy (ja1):

@.Sam.

OpenStudy (ja1):

There we go, fresh start and not as vague :)

Parth (parthkohli):

Is this an OpenStudy hackathon?

OpenStudy (ja1):

Yes but the team I am making will only Plan the hackathon not be in it. That will come later.

Parth (parthkohli):

I'd like to help the hackathon team as much as I can.

OpenStudy (ja1):

Would you like to participate in the hackathon or plan it out?

Parth (parthkohli):

If I am allowed to do either, I would. Though I prefer to participate in the hackathon. I do have some coding experience.

OpenStudy (ja1):

Then that would be best, we need more coders than we need people to make the hackathon, we want this to be big and successful :)

OpenStudy (koikkara):

I didn't understand anything....whoz Hackanthon?

OpenStudy (ja1):

Hackathon is going to be an event where codersdesign and code the new OS in teams, but right now I need 5 people who will help me make the hackathon.

Parth (parthkohli):

Is there going to be a new OS design completely? Is there a post which'd give me much more information on this hackathon? Thanks.

OpenStudy (ja1):

Well after I assemble the group then we will get the specifics and put up a post about it, for now there is not much information. And yes a complete redesign of OS in a way that solves the problems we will put up.

Parth (parthkohli):

So it's not really a complete redesign. It's just fixing, yes? OK, thanks.

OpenStudy (ja1):

Well you fix problems but the design itself has to be completely remade, from ground up that way you can improve the overall site.

Parth (parthkohli):

Wow, that is a big thing. May I know why the admins themselves are not doing all this?

OpenStudy (ja1):

Well it isn't too hard, as long as you know some good programming it should be quite easy, especially since it will be a team effort.

OpenStudy (ja1):

Also what I would suggest is to have some designers on your team so they can design the page and all the mechanics then you just have to make the code for it.

Parth (parthkohli):

I am definitely not definitely too good a programmer that I am one of five special people. It's just that I may help you in assessing problems and designing.

OpenStudy (ja1):

Oh ok I see, also it is worth mentioning the hackathon is in 3 weeks from now so you have time to learn any languages you need and to plan out your strategy.

Parth (parthkohli):

Are there a limited amount of people allowed to participate in the event?

OpenStudy (ja1):

No but there will be a limit in the amount of people per group.

Parth (parthkohli):

How many groups are there?

OpenStudy (ja1):

Well first we need to know how many people will participate, after that we will begin distributing the people up.

OpenStudy (ja1):

We hope to have registration up in 2 weeks.

OpenStudy (ja1):

Maybe less.

Parth (parthkohli):

OK, thanks.

OpenStudy (ja1):

No problem :) and if you know any good coders make sure to tell them :)

thomaster (thomaster):

lol definitly @dumbsearch2

OpenStudy (ja1):

Yes he hasn't come though :(

OpenStudy (saifoo.khan):

For a 'hackathon' a person must needs to know programming, right?

OpenStudy (ja1):

Yes but design is very important too

OpenStudy (saifoo.khan):

Alright. Let's see. Count me in.

OpenStudy (ja1):

Great more details will come after I assemble the organization team.

OpenStudy (amistre64):

i dont have access to internet during that time frame

OpenStudy (amistre64):

ill be home waiting for futurama to come on :)

OpenStudy (ja1):

lol @amistre64 no problem :)

OpenStudy (dumbsearch2):

I'd love to help. CSS is really my thing, and that's definitely design. I'd love to help fill-in the gaps with the HTML5, too.

OpenStudy (poopsiedoodle):

I wouldn't mind helping out with design and such either (especially graphic design), and anything that might require VB or C# (I'm not an expert at C#, but I can try :3)

OpenStudy (e.mccormick):

@dumbsearch2 @poopsiedoodle Remember, this part is the hackathon Organizers team. The actual hackathon is later. This group will have the glorious duty of setting some goals. Most of those, I think, will have to do with the long list of bugs and comments that have already been posted here.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Whats a hackathon? √

OpenStudy (e.mccormick):

Basically a massive coding party to develop software.

OpenStudy (poopsiedoodle):

huehuehue

OpenStudy (hba):

Coooooooooooooooool :D

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ja1 I wanna do it! pm me.

OpenStudy (ja1):

Okay guys I have to go in a bit just stopping by to check, all submissions are closed at this moment so everyone after Ryle's post about joining will not be reviewed, I will post the final team another time.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

mkays :3

OpenStudy (dumbsearch2):

Okay :D

OpenStudy (ja1):

Okay Final Team: Me @e.mccormick @AravindG @mathslover @Ryleighblue (One Spot Left) I have 1 spot left and will accept any offers (that qualify) so answer quickly, at 9:00 PM EDT I will end ALL selections so hurry in. Afterwards I will put up a post with a registration form for all the participants in the Hackathon so be patient :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

mkaysies

OpenStudy (compassionate):

Sorry, I don't code.

OpenStudy (ja1):

For the team I am assembling you don't have to.

OpenStudy (ja1):

Just like @e.mccormick said: Remember, this part is the hackathon Organizers team. The actual hackathon is later. This group will have the glorious duty of setting some goals. Most of those, I think, will have to do with the long list of bugs and comments that have already been posted here. @Compassionate

OpenStudy (compassionate):

So - I will set goals?

OpenStudy (ja1):

Goals, set up rules for hackathon, set up hackathon, organize it, plan it, collaborate in making it etc...

OpenStudy (compassionate):

I don't even know what Hackathon is. Can I Get some information?

OpenStudy (ja1):

Huge event full of coders that work in groups to make a software (in this case new OS)

OpenStudy (compassionate):

And how would I set goals? What kind of goals?

OpenStudy (ja1):

Goals like problems that need to be solved (i.e. Lag, Proxy-Ban, Spam, etc...)

thomaster (thomaster):

i can't count the things that need to be fixed :P

OpenStudy (ja1):

^ lol

OpenStudy (ja1):

I should put etc...∞

thomaster (thomaster):

haha yea :P

OpenStudy (ja1):

So guys just remember I have one more spot for anyone interested.

OpenStudy (evonhowell):

Interested I guess

OpenStudy (dumbsearch2):

Okay, I had a list even before this hackathon thingy :p Hope I will be of help. Of course :p

OpenStudy (e.mccormick):

I think lots of lists will be good. That way the overall result will be more reflective of the needs of the community and how those match up with the goals of OS.

OpenStudy (ja1):

Well I will set up an email or some sort of method for you and everyone to send in bugs they want fixed :)

OpenStudy (ja1):

Update: The Post on the hackathon, the email, and the registration might be delayed by a couple of days but not much so keep checking in :) #OSHackathon

mathslover (mathslover):

Why not to schedule time to time online class or meeting for this? www.wiziq.com

OpenStudy (ja1):

Also remember today is the last day to sign up for the team, if I sent out a PM with the form and I do not receive it back before today I will not add you.

mathslover (mathslover):

Mailing actually is a good idea but not completely. Suppose, I mailed you with an idea that is good only when something is added to it, and that can be suggested my either you or the above mentioned team members. But how will it be done? I guess, if we discuss ideas, bans, rules and regulations in a single day in a week , that will be perfect.

OpenStudy (ja1):

Yes we will be incorporating some method like that to recieve feedback from the community.

mathslover (mathslover):

Discussion may be about : i) What kind of ideas or bugs should be noticed and mailed? ii) Rules and regulations. iii) Time allotment and that all...

OpenStudy (tyteen4a03):

Are there any rough objectives of this hackathon?

OpenStudy (e.mccormick):

Make a better OS front end.... the heavy use of scripts and other issues that cause unreliability have already been mentioned as targets for change. I am betting after reliability, commonly complained about features and lack thereof as well as some internal security will be next priority.

mathslover (mathslover):

Nice @e.mccormick .

mathslover (mathslover):

@JA1 @e.mccormick @AravindG @Ryleighblue Can you please PM me your time zone and country (or)? We have to decide or our meet up online.

OpenStudy (tyteen4a03):

What languages and/or frameworks are you going to use?

mathslover (mathslover):

Well, do you know coding?

mathslover (mathslover):

For server side : Scala MongoDB Amazon Server Experience Java PHP For Client Side: Ajax JavaScript HTML/CSS

mathslover (mathslover):

And if you don't know about those languages , then you can enter our team. We will organize it , will provide suggestions for the new OS. pm "JA1" if you want to be in , hurry

OpenStudy (tyteen4a03):

Where does Java come in?

Parth (parthkohli):

^

OpenStudy (tyteen4a03):

(also, Ajax is not a language)

Parth (parthkohli):

I have never heard of Amazon Experience...

mathslover (mathslover):

all above r not languages, but u r suggested to know 90% of them.

mathslover (mathslover):

@JA1 can further help in this.

OpenStudy (tyteen4a03):

Amazon Experience is just about running deamons and stuff on Amazon's server. Do we \(have\) to stick to liftweb?

OpenStudy (tyteen4a03):

About communication, I like IRC better.

Parth (parthkohli):

Yay, IRC. But the thing with IRC is that when you close it mistakenly, well, you got a lot of history erased.
