capitalism - the government stays out of the economy and people are free to do as they like (laissez-faire). taxes are minimal.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

socialism - the government owns or controls varying means of production. under true socialism, the government controls all means of production. taxes are usually very high.

OpenStudy (goldphenoix):

Capitalism - Capitalism is an economic system based on the private ownership of the means of production, with the goal of making a profit Socialism - Socialism is an economic system characterised by social ownership of the means of production and co-operative management of the economy. Communism - Communism is kind of like an opposite of capitalism. Everyone compete for money. Everybody would be equal in wealth and social status. (No private property)

OpenStudy (goldphenoix):

For communism, a garbageman can literary make a same amount of money as a doctor.
