OpenStudy (jazzyfa30):

For the following inequalities, make sure to use the correct sign with your answer. Examples: x>3, 75. Solve: 3(2x -4) - 4x + 7 < 9

OpenStudy (johnweldon1993):

Well we have 3(2x - 4) - 4x + 7 < 9 first...distribute that 3

OpenStudy (jazzyfa30):

so it will be 6x-12-4x+7<9

OpenStudy (johnweldon1993):

right now combine your like terms 6x - 4x = ...? -12 + 7 = ...?

OpenStudy (jazzyfa30):

2x -5

OpenStudy (johnweldon1993):

right...so together we have 2x - 5 < 9 what next?

OpenStudy (jazzyfa30):

subtract 5 from both sides which will give me 2x<4

OpenStudy (johnweldon1993):

not quite....since you want to get rid of that 5 on the left side you want to ADD 5 right? if you subtract 5 you have 2x - 5 < 9 -5 -5 2x - 10 < 4 right? so we need to do the OPPOSITE of subtraction...which is addition 2x - 5 < 9 +5 +5 2x < 14 and finally x < ...?

OpenStudy (jazzyfa30):

sorry I get x<7

OpenStudy (johnweldon1993):

no problem...and yes that is correct!

OpenStudy (jazzyfa30):

now that we've got that done crate a Skype My name is jasmine_ramos30 make sure you add me as a contact
