I need help..here's the problem: if the temperature on the ground is 60 degree F, then the air temperature x miles high is given by T=60-29x. Determine the altitudes at which the air temperature is less than 4.1 degree F. The altitudes at which the air temperature is less then 4.1 degree F are more than ____ miles.

OpenStudy (whpalmer4):

If \(T = 60-29x\) and we want to find the altitudes for which T < 4.1, then we need to solve the inequality \[60-29x < 4.1\]for \(x\). I would suggest subtracting 60 from both sides, then dividing both sides by -29. Don't forget that when you multiply or divide by a negative number you have to reverse the direction of the inequality sign!
