What is the first step in solving the equation −4x − 16 = 20

OpenStudy (zzr0ck3r):

we want to get the x alone by itself, so we need to first get the term with x in it(-4x) by itself. so what could be add to the left side to make it -4x?

OpenStudy (zzr0ck3r):

in other words -4x-16+? = -4x
