Use a trigonometric ratio to find the value of x. Round your answer to the nearest tenth. The figure is not drawn to scale.
Use the law of sines. Sin A / A = sin B / b = sin C / c where "a" is the side opposite of angle A, etc.
Since it is a right triangle the the other angles are 90degrees and 70 degrees.
tan 20=10/x multiply both sides by x x(tan 20)=10 divide by tan 20 x=10/tan 20 plug it into the calculator and get 27.5
You have an angle...a side opposite to that angle...and you want the side adjacent to that angle...which trig function uses opposite and adjacent? as @Tigger25 has shown...it is tan...and that is how you would do it lol...Great Job Tigger25!
something I learned to remember these is Soh-Cah-Toa The S (sin) of an angle is Opposite over Hypotenuse C (cos) is Adjacent over Hypotenuse and T(tan) is Opposite over Adjacent
