What is the specific function of the microtubule LEADING UP TO metaphase, and AFTER metaphase?

I would assume that 'leading up to metaphase' simply means attaching to kinetochores and jiggling the chromosomes till they line up at metaphase plate. Is that correct? I didn't think they had a function AFTER metaphase either??
