MIT 6.189 A Gentle Introduction to Programming Using Python (OCW) 12 Online
OpenStudy (makiza):

Hello, I an new to Python. I would like to take the steps to learn how to program in Python. Anyone want to make me their Padawan?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@makiza Think about joining the Mechanical MOOC Python course, which starts June 17th. There are 1,600 other Python learners signed up! ( http://mechanicalmooc.com)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

http://www.python.org/doc/ from this link you can get all the information on python along with the tutorials for beginners :) .

1,600 others signed up? I suddenly feel so insignificant. ;) "In China when they tell you that you are 'one in a million' there are 100,000 more just like you.....

OpenStudy (joel_atkins):

You want someone to be your Master and for you to be someone's Padawan? Then codecademy.com/tracks/python will do just that, everything's broken down so you won't get overwhelmed by too much information, and you keep a progress chart.

OpenStudy (e.mccormick):

I am not sure the Master/Padawan model would work too well here. It depends on if you know what that really means. The Padawan status was for someone who already has all the basics down. It is like journeyman training, you assume the person has understanding of all apprentice level learning and begin directly into more advanced topics. If you are already a programmer, then fine, that would do it. The Google Python Lectures would also do it at that point. A two day crash course on Python for people that already know what variables, iterations, and so on are. If you are not already a programmer, the proper Star Wars reference is Initiate, not Padawan. Then Code Academy, the Mechanical Mooc, or many others would work well.

Mechanical MOOC has created teams. Join the course now to join these teams of about 40 people. They will be invaluable for mutual helping!
