ok so i have never written an essay before and i have to write one (or more) for the compass im taking soon and i need advice on how to prepare for it and tips on writing so any advice would be greatly appreciated. (i was home schooled my whole life so thats why i havent written one)

Whatever you have to write about, write it before hand and revise, check spelling and grammar. look up online in how to prepare. go through books and get scratch paper and take notes if you can. Good luck:)
