find a number of ways 4 territories can be assigned (one each) to 4 of a company's 9 salemans

@mathstudent55 help??

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The territories are all different and so are the salesmen, so this is a permutation problem, (as opposed to a combination problem). The first territory can go to any of 9 salesmen, leaving 8 salesmen for receiving that second territory, etc: 9 x 8 x 7 x 6 This is mathematically: 9 P 4 which is: (9!)/(9 - 4)! or (9!) / (5!) (9 x 8 x 7 x 6 x 5 x 4 x 3 x 2 x 1) / (5 x 4 x 3 x 2 x 1) 9 x 8 x 7 x 6
