The third angle is 30º (you have 90º and 60º). When you have a rectangle triangle with these angles, the segment opposite to 30º its a half of the hypotenuse and the opposite to 60º its a half of the hypotenuse times sqrt3.

So, if 8 its the half of the hypotenuse, the hypotenuse is 16 and x = 16.

Every triangle that has the angles 30º, 60º and 90º has that propriety. The propriety is:
The segment opposite to the angle of 30º it's a half of the hypotenuse.
The segment opposite to the angle of 60º it's a half of the hypotenuse times sqrt of 3.

You have the segment opposite to the hypotenuse, so, multiply it by 2 and you will have the hypotenuse. And multiply it by sqrt of 3 and you will have the segment opposite to 60º.
