hen you push down on a block resting on a table, block atoms and table atoms that are in contact with one another A. move closer to one another B. break their bonds with one another C. move past each other D. maintain their positions

OpenStudy (anonymous):

It should be A. Initially ,block and the table atoms were in equilibrium. When additional force is applied, they have to come closer to attain their new equilibrium position. When the atoms will move closer ,repulsion between them will increase and this will counter the additional pushing force we are applying.
