The graph of F(x), has the same shape as the graph of G(x) = x^2 + x, but it is shifted to the left one unit. Complete its equation below. F(x) = _____

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Do you mean \[G(x)=x^2+x\]?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes my mistake

OpenStudy (anonymous):

F(x)=(x+1)^2+(x+1) =>x^2+2x+1+x+1 =>x^2+3x+2 (Ans)

Whenever there is a right shift in f(x) by a units , Replace x by (x-a) in f(x) Whenever there is a left shift in f(x) by a units , Replace x by (x+a) in f(x) Hope this will generalize the concept :)
