Write an equation in slope-intercept form that is parallel to y – 5x = 10 and passes through the point (2, -4). I think I got it but I'm not sure

OpenStudy (ivettef365):

first write the equation as y =mx + b , to find the slope which is m then you have y = 5x + 10

OpenStudy (ivettef365):

Now you know the slope is 5, to be parallel it need to have the same slope so now substitute the x for 2 and y for -4, to find the value of b and do the equation

OpenStudy (ivettef365):

so you have -4 = 5(2) + b find b

OpenStudy (anonymous):

b=-14

@ivettef365

OpenStudy (ivettef365):

right so now you have teh b = -14 and m = 5 so the equation would be y = 5x -14

awesome thank you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
