A ball falls vertically onto a floor, with momentum p, and then bounces repeatedly. The coefficient of restitution is 'e'. The total momentum imparted by the ball to the floor is......

OpenStudy (irishboy123):

applying Newton's conservation of momentum, ASSUMING the ball bounces ad nauseum (infinitum!!), it will eventually stop and all the momentum will have been passed into the earth. conservation of momentum is different from conservation of energy, NB. the energy from the bounce will have dissipated in other ways. in reality, as the ball moves, it will lose momentum to the air molecules into which it crashes as it falls and rebounds.
