A fish that normally lives in salty water is placed in a tank containing fresh water. What do you think will happen to the cells of the fish?

If the fish doesn't have osmoregulatory mechanisms (to excrete excess salt), then water (via osmosis) will flow into its cells to make the concentrations (inside and outside) equal.
