It's GREATER THAN, so that eliminate 1 and 4 It's EQUAL TO, so that eliminates 3 and 4 Not too many left. (0,0) is NOT in the shaded region. Check to see that is does NOT work in the only one left.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

im still confused I dont get the answers but I get the other part that your were explaining

OpenStudy (tkhunny):

What's to get? There are four possible answers and we ruled out three of them. That leaves only one. The simplest way to answer such a question is simply to try stuff out. Try the simplest things you can think of. I like (0,0) if it is useful. If not, maybe (1,1) or something. Here's the last one, using (0,0) y < 1-2x 0 < 1 - 2(0) (?) 0 < 1 - 0 0 < 0 <== See this works! Since (0,0) is NOT included in the shaded region, this cannot be the right answer.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay so the answer is the last one because it i the only one that works right?

OpenStudy (tkhunny):

No. Look at the drawing. The yellow-shaded region is the region we're supposed to be finding. (0,0) is NOT in the yellow region. If it is the right answer for this problem, (0,0) CANNOT work in the equation. If it works, it's not the right answer.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

you said that the last one is d did not work

OpenStudy (tkhunny):

No, I said (0,0) works in the last inequality. Since (0,0) is NOT in the desired region, this is a fail and the last inequality is not the right answer.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OH, okay so the answer is b
