A cactus with long spines protects itself from animals better than a cactus with short spines. According to natural selection, _____.
There are two aspect in natural selection: The adaption to the environment and the reproduction. Best example I can think of is to use my high school teacher's example: If you have a lion that is extremely, unusually fast and can hunt down any pray, but not able to reproduce, we can say it is genetically dead. Unlike the slow less dangerous lion that can reproduce but manage to get a pray from time to time and have the ability to reproduce it will win and natural selection will favour the slow lion.
It is the balance between the two make the outcome, it can also be seen in cell cultures.
the cactus with long spine can protect itself and can produce more than the short spine cactus
