First you have to substitute the x variable by his value. x = 4 6 + (10 - x) ^ 2 - 20 6 + (10 - 4) ^ 2 - 20 After that use the rules of arithmetic: 6 + (6) ^ 2 - 20 6 + 36 - 20 42 - 20 22
