Your thesis statement is where you tell the reader what you intend to PROVE with evidence (research) that you cite in the body of the paper. It is not based on opinion, it is based on what you find from the research. This may be a conclusion/judgement call that you come to based on what you read, so in that way it could be thought of as an opinion, but you must back up your opinion with facts from reputable sources.
