How would I work the problem (without a calculator): "A soccer team played 160 games and won 65 percent of them. How many games did it win?"

Well yeah....65 percent...is equal to .65

So on paper you would write

$$160 \times .65$$

and do the multiplication out

And if you didnt know percents....

say you have 12 percent...and you dont know what that is in decimal form....you put it over 100

$$\frac{ 12 }{ 100 } = .12$$

Kay...so wouldn't I do 5 times 160, then 6 times 160, get 800 and 1000; add them and get my answer?

=>(xy/100)=z
Here y=160 & x=65 . You need to find z
