Using complete sentences, describe how you would verify the zeros of a function. Use your description to verify one of the problems submitted for the assessment.

to verify the zeros of a function set it equal to 0. is that right ?

OpenStudy (whpalmer4):

I don't want to just give you the answer, so I won't use complete sentences. The zeros of a function are the places where the function equals zero. If you think that x=3 is a zero of your function, then if you put 3 in wherever you see x, the result must be 0 or you are incorrect in thinking that is a root.

Hmm, not sure I succeeded in not using complete sentences :-)

hahaha (: ok last one. Using complete sentences, describe your strengths and weaknesses in solving equations

OpenStudy (anonymous):

how would i answer it ? im not sure what its asking .

OpenStudy (whpalmer4):

Well, think of the algebra problems you have trouble solving. Are there any common themes? One that I have (and I think many people have) is that if I'm subtracting equations and there are negative signs in the thing being subtracted, I have to be very careful or I'll make a mistake with the signs.

OpenStudy (whpalmer4):

I think it is valuable, btw, to occasionally ask yourself that question. If you always make a mistake when you're doing XYZ, then remember that, and take more care when doing XYZ, or see if there's a different way to do those problems where you make fewer mistakes.
