Interesting Puzzle Guys: Jack drive to his office at an average speed of 20km/hr. After reaching the Pony Ranch, he realize that today is a holiday of 'Dia Del Los Muertes'. He returned home at average speed of 30km/hr. Discounting the time spent at the ranch, what was his average speed of his journey ?

OpenStudy (cwrw238):

assume the office is 10 miles form his home calculate the times for each part of his journey then add them then average speed is 20 / time

OpenStudy (jack1):

yeah, i know the answer, it's just an interest only thing, most ppl automatically say "25"without thinking first

OpenStudy (cwrw238):

you can't just average the times 20 + 30 / 2 since speeds are a ratio.

OpenStudy (cwrw238):

right - a lot of people do just that

OpenStudy (jack1):

everything just seemed... tooooo quiet... ;)

OpenStudy (jack1):

anyone who reads this afterwards : TL;DR - average speed = 24 km/hr
