find the cost for renting a car for five days at $27.50 per day and 15 cents per mile if the car is driven 1,176 miles.

OpenStudy (espex):

The trick to these is figuring out what they are asking and converting it into "math". The first part, daily rental, they tell you that it costs you $27.50 per day. That means if you rented that car for one \(\color{red}{time}\) you would pay $27.50, if you rented the car for two days, you would pay $27.50, 2 \(\color{red}{times}\) (2* 27.50), if you rented the car for 7 days, you would pay $27.50, 7 \(\color{red}{times}\) (7*27.50), etc.. In "addition" to the rental fee, you are charged 0.15 for every mile. If you rented the car for one day (1*27.50) and \(\color{red}{additionally}\) (+) drove it 10 miles (10*0.15), it would cost you $29.00 :)
